Collaborative Law is effective in a wide range of legal issues, and is especially valuable when a continuing relationship, either directly or through others, is a potential outcome.
Because Collaborative Law allows parties to focus on solutions which will work for all involved, it offers an alternative which encourages participants to be reasonable and respectful.
Separation and Divorce
The Collaborative process is particularly well-suited to separating couples who recognize the value of their continued relationship to their children and grandchildren, or who wish to minimize the impact upon their larger communities: families, friends and others who are important to both. Some express the hope to dance together at their kids' weddings someday.
Non-marital Family Separation
Domestic partners, whether same-gender or not, often have complex issues which benefit from the attention of a Collaborative attorney. Unmarried couples often have practical matters to resolve (financial, social, emotional or parental), as well as issues relating to their community, families and friends. Their court-based options are limited, however. Many times, domestic partners going through a breakup choose to walk away, not knowing that another alternative exists. The Collaborative Process allows people to engage in clear, open, fair negotiations which remain private.
Other Family Matters

Professional
Medical Malpractice - When there has been a bad medical outcome,
out-of-court solutions are often more satisfying to all concerned.
Collaborative Law provides a safe, confidential opportunity for patients, families and physicians to hear and tell the whole story, a benefit not often available to them. The process potentially circumvents the need for NPDB reporting.
